You can now donate to the Ancianitas through the Foundation for Lake Chapala charities. The money is then transferred directly into the Ancianita's Santander account. The home spends almost all of their income on salaries for the nurses and care givers. The need for food is compelling. Providing this food is our primary mission. We deliver food once a month.
We visit the women once a month to deliver food and at other times bringing other groups to infuse joy into these forgotten women's lives. Their eyes light up when they see us. Every human needs to feel cared for.
Thanks to a generous donation from Ca, Martina's sponsor, we were able to have a fiesta in February. Agustin from Viva Mexico fixed lasagne and hired musicians to play Mexican music the ancianitas would remember. We had ice cream for dessert. There was much dancing and fun!
At Christmas we hold a party for the Ancianitas. All of the women got present-stuffed bags (thank you, Katharina!), blankets (thank you, Kathy and Barb!) and sheets, and other much-needed linens. We hope to do this every year.
We try to have other events for them throughout the year. Linda Harley has brought her cooking classes and they distributed jackets, dolls, adult diapers and more.
We had a Mother's Day luncheon with the ancianitas and their families (for those who have a family).

It's a proven fact that dogs who visit the elderly give them a reason to live.
MUSIC & ART PROGRAM
Once a week: Live or recorded...the women playing percussion instruments. Volunteer playing music for them. Art demonstrations or classes in coloring, textiles, etc.
